Introduction
Diabetes and Hypertension reversal/remission after surgery. Have you ever wondered if your blood pressure or diabetes could be due to an undiagnosed internal issue? In one of our recent publications, we shared a remarkable case where a hidden tumor led to brain hemorrhage, uncontrolled hypertension, and diabetes – all resolved after surgery.
Case Overview
In this published case, a 52-year-old woman came in for a regular checkup with complaints of:
Intermittent headaches and palpitations
A history of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) (brain bleed)
Recent onset type 2 diabetes mellitus and long-standing hypertension
Further evaluation revealed a pheochromocytoma—a rare tumor of the adrenal gland that secretes excess hormones. After laparoscopic removal of the tumor, both her diabetes and high blood pressure resolved completely, and she no longer needed medications.
Medical Highlights
- Diagnosis: Pheochromocytoma
Unusual First Sign: Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH)
Treatment: Laparoscopic adrenalectomy
Outcome: Complete remission of diabetes and hypertension
Why This Case Matters
This case reminds us that not all diabetes or hypertension is “essential” or primary. Sometimes, there are treatable root causes.
If you have:
Uncontrolled BP despite multiple drugs
Newly diagnosed diabetes with symptoms like palpitations, sweats, or anxiety
History of hypertensive emergencies
…it may be time for a specialist evaluation.
